# KONNICHIWA TENT (3) |
* Owing to circumstances of the site structure, "KONNICHIWA TENT (3)" is repeated with "KOHO-CHI (9)" at the first part. |
- Two middle-aged women were taking a rest at the edge of the field.
- This is where called KAMEDANI.
- I talked to them "I'm looking for a place to put up a tent". Then they answered "You can put up here".
- They said they had cultivatied vegetables until last year.
- When I drew her face secretly, she pushed me. It means my drawing doesn't look like her at all.
- They gathered dry grass to make a bed for me.
- It's soft and so comfortable.
- I found a 1cm hole in my tent. Last night a wild boar might open it. I feel that some kinds of animals wandered around my tent.
- I have looked for a place to put up a tent all day long. It's very difficult to find a place where I really want to put up a tent. It gets dark soon.

I found a 1cm hole in my tent. Last night a wild boar might open it. |
|
In the night, my friend, MARUI-KUN visited me. |
MARUI: |
KONNICHIWA, TENT-KUN !! Can I begin with your name? KONNICHIWA TENT-KUN! Oh? KONNICHIWA TENT-KUN?? |
|
TETSUO : |
KONNICHIWA. This bed is soft and comfortable, isn't it? |
MARUI: |
It's the grass bed that middle-aged women presented you, right? It's like HEIDI! It doesn't look so, though... |
OGAWA: |
The smell of grass is like a new straw mat. Though there is a night-soil reservior nearby, it deosn't smell... |
MARUI: |
Yeah, the smell of a new straw mat is good. When I helped who moved to a Tatami-mat room, I envyed him. But how long does the smell last? |
OGAWA: |
I think about 3 months. I guess, here, you could smell this through a year. The sound of the river and insects. They make me sleepy. |
MARUI: |
And, aren't you sleepy anymore for the happening of firefly's light?
|
OGAWA: |
Yeah, I've got excited very much. But it looked like a real firefly. |
MARUI: |
But when a car passes by, this light isn't firefly-like. |
OGAWA: |
Yeah, right. |
MARUI: |
By the way, last night, didn't a wild boar break these balloons that have changed into fireflies? (...break these "Firefly baloons"?) |
OGAWA: |
Well, I felt a wild boar digged between soil and my tent. Actually, among animals, I feel friendly toward a wild boar next to a cat. |
MARUI: |
Why, next to cats? I can't see the relation between a wild boar and a cat.. Though I say so, I also think you can like it without any relation! No, as we are talking by means of writing, I feel I can't help but ask you like this... |

- I relaxed by my tent. I could feel easy. Who was on the opposite side of the river was looking at me. I bowed to him. He also to me. When I said "KONNICHIWA", he smiled. Old people bow deep. Ants came up on my stomach. A mosquito bit me.
- September set in and it got cold suddenly.
- I see a schoolchild walking away. Then, I wonder it's about 8:00.
- A middle-aged woman who was working at the upper field said to methat she would visit me after noon. I'm looking forward to her visit.
- A middle-aged woman whose house is next to the park said, "It's fall already".
- I visited a town office. They gave me SOMEN (a kind of noodle). SAWA-SAN is working here. I asked him to distribute leaflets of "KONNICHIWA TENT". He said he would do to single girls mainly. I look forward to girl's visits.
- I wish someone would visit me.. There's nothing to do, I'm drawing a tree before me.

Three men of town office drove a red fire engine and visited me. |
|
|
YABUKI-SAN (Self-portrait) |
When she was a child she camped, she saw a female ghost assing by in the night. |
|
YOKOYAMA-KUN. He was cooperative at "ART SPHERE HAIZUKA". |
|
|
Red Fire Engine |
A red fire engine was like big red castanets. It locked and congealed fire in the red body, and it almost started to rattle. Three men came and we talked. While I took pictures and drew, they was waiting me very quietly. And the red fire engine left very silently. |
|
|
KOTAKE-SAN who was next tothe park saw my sketchbook. She said that it was true there were so many fireflies ten years ago. |
A middle-aged man like this passed by on a bicycle with saying, "KONNICHIWA". |
LEE-SAN and INOUE-SAN (ART SPHERE HAIZUKA) |
- I saw him taking a rest. I asked him to draw his face. He laughed a lot and his smile was very good. He said, "When it's hot, I don't work". And he laughed. He was the very picture of Henry Miller.
- He said that he would come again at 9 or 10, and bring money. He said so and left on a bicycle. He might want to buy the drawing. Of course I'll send it free for him. But I want to know how much he will buy.

|
- In the morning, when I relaxed in my tent, a junior high school girl passed by on a bicycle with saying, "OHAYO-GOZAIMASU" (tr."Good Morning").
- A middle-aged man who had come yesterday came to buy the drawing. He looks young, about 71. He came on a bicycle. I told him that I'd send it to him later. But he insisted, "As you drew me kindly, I buy it". I said again that I would send. But he said 'no, no' and took out his purse. Though I thought he would come to my tent, he said that he had put it in a helmet in a basket of a bicycle. It was not my bicycle. He left. I found a note of thousand yen in a helmet.
- I wondered if he was ashamed that others would see the drawing.
- YABUKI-SAN who visited me last night said that this community was on good terms (He is another YABUKI). That's why it's comfortable here, I guess. When they cannot accept my putting up a tent, mostly they are afraid of neighbors'eyes. Then, to say simply, such a community should not be on good terms.
- KOTAKE-SAN gave me grilled corns.
